Pompeii! by Prem Krishnamurthy is a digital, hyperlinked ensemble of forty‑eight PDFs—each a fragment of the artist’s evolving “P!DF” work—released in March 2021 through the Pompeii Commitment initiative. Structured like archaeological layers, the PDFs invite readers to traverse Krishnamurthy’s iterative digital practice. Presented via open access and enabled for public annotation, the archive foregrounds transformation over finality, ritual over ruin, and collective agency over fixed authorship. In reviving the original meaning of “catastrophe” as “a sudden turn,” Pompeii! enacts a poetics of letting go and reimagines design as a perpetually unfolding communal gesture.
